Born in 1998 Baka! is the encounter of JL Prades and Franck Lafay with their common taste for noise, pop-core, emo-core and various instrumental music types. First, the project was about live noise performances (guitar/vocals + bass/vocals) with experimental and concrete breakaways on top of the tapes including rhythms and arrangements (samples, loops, etc...) The band then evolved from these first steps to something more and more complex, specially concerning the sound ambiances from tapes, to eventually spend almost two years in studio \ the only way for them to quench their thirst for the most contrasted and complex landscapes and to give research a larger space.
Consequently were released "head", a two-track demo laying the foundations of the new Baka!, then "Baka !", first album asserting the chosen direction and where the duo offer tormented compositions, with an angst-ridden angle that never sinks into heaviness. Precise rhythms meet loops originally made from distorted and extremely embezzled guitar parts, in the line of the most ambient tracks of Bästard or even an appeased Hint. In the meantime, the band composed "mangrove" and "silky walk", two tracks destined for compilations like "strings'' and "stings 2'' (fbwl / distribution Chronowax) or young Poitiers based label Another records. Today, Baka! heads for the stage. With two guitars, two samplers and a system for mixing, treating (live sampling) and broadcasting the sound, the duo's performance is miles away from the rock concerts of their beginnings, between expe-noise and electro, pure energy, sound embezzlements and dreamlike atmospheres.
