Banditos

For this second release by Banditos, a duet formed by Sébastien Atoch and Pierre-Emmanuel Braux, the label electro lab factory (sub division of Ozore Age) goes back in the days, to the origin of the band, and grouped the most important tunes released on different 12 inch vynils on a cd as an anthology.

The whole is completed by a dvd on which the sound is an extract of Banditos live show in Spain in 2005, and the video is realised by Yann Richet, who had released few months ago under the same label the documentary called “Traveller Tchèque”.

For those who don’t know Banditos yet, let’s say that it all began in 1999 when they decided to unite their strenghts and to play music after they had began organizing nights. But first of all it’s their will to create sound and to built the sound universe that stimulated them.

The 12 inch records succeed one another and they do more and more dates, free nights or officials, testing their tracks on live. You can notice through Fly, Without Caution, the evolution and constant progress of Banditos who doesn’t hesitate to draw into any style whether they are electro, techno, drum’N’bass, eighties, breakbeat, dub, the whole animated by a punk rock energy wich fits them perfectly.

Since the first tune of this anthology, Overground, we fully enter the universe of these two guys mad about crushed rythms who don’t hesitate to contort and break the cadence, mixing beats under EPO and bridges in slow motion, under free synthetic sounds where blips and blops enjoy themselves.

Their universe which you could first think is simple delivers its true flavor more and more as you go deeper inside their music, in which elements like to overlap and accumulate, as in Totem Tzigane in which you hear the melancholic melody of an Eastern European violin is taken by assault with rythms The dark atmospheres touched by a bit of schizophrenia are also present in this album with the tempestuous Cosmix Banditos in which icy synthetic sounds swirl speed voices buckles.

As time goes by Banditos sound becomes more round, basses deeper, but without leaving this personnal touch at the limit of the experimental which is attached to every track as to give to the listener a source of sound confusion stimulating and distorting at the same time the listening, juxtaposing the layers and playing permanently with the listener, making him feel lost in a labyrinth of sensations and feelings, on which reigns a spirit of total freedom.

Digital Egg, their first album, will be the first proof. Banditos offer direct tracks which make the diversity and the different layers of the actual electro underground scene collide, the whole carried by a festive spirit.

The dvd realised by Yann Richet transposes in a personnal way their musical universe, in a world made with moving bodies taken on an aura of absurd touches, as this man who fists fuck himself in the mouth, or drape beauty, as these faces evolving behind a material that let mystery glides and open the dvd.

The strongly colored images like flirting with a certain idea of psychedelysm coming from the free parties scene. Each track can be watched as a video clip with arty touches or in its completness as a film in wich the put in abyss is surprising and really hypnotic.

And for those who’d like some more they can find and listen to (still on the dvd) a live made in 2002 performed during an hypothetical “teknival in Muflins, cf. Grosland”... A collection of sounds and images that summons the future by drawing into its past.
