The BellRays' new album successfully represents the band's singularity, combining two central types of American music: raging rock'n'roll and Soul music's emotional power. "Imagine Tina Turner with The Stooges" is one of the most recurrent descriptions to qualify their music. And this time again, "Have a little faith" won't fail their reputation, the only difference here being that, through their bass player Robert Vennum, the band has been working much longer on this one than on the other 6!
Nearly all songs are by guitarist Tony Fate and, as usual, a place of choice is given to Lisa Kekaula's beautiful voice, a real force of nature, the very expression of Soul and Rock'n'roll. Besides, Craig Waters' amazing drumming tops this raging and emotional foursome. Then add up brass (trumpets and saxophone), backing vocals, and, above all you might say, genuine songs. "Tell the Lie" opens the album with a round and explosive bass, a contained tension. Or "time is Gone" taking the rhythm a step higher before the explosive "Chainsong". This is The BellRays : Soul subtlety, Rock'n'roll rage, pure energy and power!!! Finally, note that Lisa Kekaula also works with Basement Jaxx (with whom she won a Grammy Award), and also with Crystal Method.
