Chokebore

Chokebore is from Honolulu, Hawaï. The story begins in the early 90's when the band recently arrived in California, signed to Amphetamine Reptile Records (Melvins, Helmet, Unsane…), legendary American label which released its first albums, Motionless (1993), Anything New Water (1995), A Taste For Bitters (1996). Or three top rock songs, pushed by a powerful rhythm section and devastating guitars. The haunting melodies and the upsetting singing of Troy Von Balthazar will do an unclassifiable band. Quicly, Chokebore toured with many big names in US rock as Guzzard, Today Is The Day, Butthole Surfers, Samiam, Girls Against Boys and attracts a solid base of fans, mesmerized by the unique sound and explosive live performances of Troy and the band. The tour with Nirvana in 1993 and 1994 made it possible to the "favourite band" of Kurt Cobain to establish its reputation in the American rock scene. Chokebore released in 1998 Black Black, then 4 years later It's A Miracle, two acclaimed albums which participated in its worldwide fame. The beautiful epic seemed to end in 2003 with the release of A Part From Life, live album that sounds like a farewell.

In the late 2000's, in Berlin, the paths of the brothers Kroll and Troy Von Balthazar met again. Simple acoustic guitars and devotion to Chokebore permitted getting together again for music. Giving so much of their lives to this band makes the experience natural, only guided by the pleasure of being together again, to make music. The instruments had not stayed for such a long time disconnected because the band - always accompanied by drummer Christian Omar Madrigal Izzo - came back on stage in 2010, intense and touching moment hoped for a very long time for all fans of Chokebore.

Today, nearly 10 years after its last studio album, Chokebore will release Falls Best, new devastating EP that strikes in the heart. Five abrasive and uncompromising songs. From the colossal 'Lawsuit' to the well-named 'Awesome', going by the spleen Fall 'Defenders', impossible to stay impassible in front of so much emotional music. Troy Von Balthazar, fragile and stormy, keeps on singing keenly, and, listening to this new treasure, we feel like this band has never really left us.
