Influenced by artists such as Alanis Morissette, Joss Stone or Muse and System of a Down, Deborah Charles is an eclectic artist with a warm and fragile soul voice, but also powerfully rock’n'roll!
Her first pop-rock-soul album “What’s Holding Us Back? ” released in November 2010: a fresh, dynamic and positive album, like this young 27 years old french singer-songwriter.
Since the age of 6, Deborah is familiar with the artistic world: she made her first steps in a school of dance where she practiced classical ballet, modern jazz, circus and even tap-dancing! But it’s really at the age of 13 when a new teacher arrived at the school to give singing lessons that something triggered off in Deborah’s mind. “You have a beautiful timbre! Sounds like black gospel!”.
In 2004, Deborah materialized her wish to sing in a band and formed a neo metal band with 6 friends that lasted 3 years. In 2008, the urge to sing lead her to meet Jay Chapman. This composer impressed by her natural ability to sing various kinds of music decided to compose for her. She wrote lyrics and melodies. Whatever the style, Deborah thoroughly loved the challenge to work and invent such a variety of tracks. And here it is: “What’s Holding Us Back?”!
In 2011, concerts followed on where her incredible stage presence and her infectious energy quickly seduced the audience! Deborah loves being on stage and it shows!
