izOReL is the solo project of the musician Aurélien Rotureau (France, 1979).
izOReL studied electroacoustic composition at the Conservatory of Bordeaux (France), where he received a unanimous first prize in 2001. During the same period, he also studied Language sciences at the University of Bordeaux (Bachelor’s degree).
From 1999 to 2002, izOReL composed various pieces of music, especially for dance shows and live performing arts, but also for short films. He also performed in different experimental music acts.
In 2003, he settled in Montreal, Canada, and started to create his own sound by recording and mixing sound samples captured in his daily life.
From 2004 to 2005, he lived in Brussels, Belgium. There, he worked with live performing acts combining music and dance, and took a special interest in the significance of sound as a physical phenomena. During the same period, he released an album on label "Metak" called Amodio (together with Javier Manterola de Lisabö). “Daily sounds on deep and fragile melodies. Calls for communication.”
In 2005, while giving primary musical education’s courses in Brussels with “Les Ateliers de la Chaise Musicale”, he released an album called “La guitare d’Orélien”. This album features more than 40 tracks of the children repertoire and was produced in collaboration with the argentine musician German Falfan. With him and other artists coming from diverse horizons, he also created Matekemata, a multidisciplinary artistic collective.
In 2006, Matekemata settled in Cordoba, Argentina and collaborated with the netlabel Pueblo Nuevo for a tour in Santiago de Chile.
Back in Europe in 2007, he moved to Barcelona, Spain, and started composing music for the fire installations from the French company “"Carabosse". The company’s tours allowed him to travel to Europe and North America. That same year, he created KarteryKash, an electro-country-rock band performing covers of Johnny Cash in a very personalized way, with kitchen sounds being used to create the tracks’ rhythmical base.
In 2008, in his home-studio, izOReL gathered tracks on a release called “Carabosse”, featuring the musical pieces he played live with the company of the same name. During that year, the vertical dance company Delreves from Barcelona (Spain) invited him to compose and play music for their first show, Repite Conmigo, which is still touring worldwide today.
From 2009 to 2010, izOReL worked mostly with Carabosse, Delreves and KarteryKash. However, he also took part in numerous other projects for the collective Mobiolak, as well as for the company Les migrateurs cosmiques, and also undertook sound editings for the Spanish television.
In 2011, izOReL moved to Gernika (Spain), seeking isolation in order to compose the musical pieces for Delreves’ second show “Guateque”.
In 2012, he got back on the road for a lengthy tour, juggling between Carabosse and Delreves shows.
Today, izOReL alternates his living between France and Spain (Barcelona), collaborating in many projects and continuing developing his creations for Carabosse and Delreves, while his own band KarteryKash keeps growing!
