Kim was born underwater in Cannes, in 1977. His name is Asian but he is not. His origins are Italian ones and he likes to speak Russian. He was dumb during his childhood but became quite talkative with time.
His family has alwys been into music. His father, Patrick Giani, played the drums in the late 70's for singers like Jacques Higelin. His uncle played the guitar in Paris punk band Calcinator, which was part of the 80's French punk scene. His grand father played the accordion in balls and his mother works at radio station NRJ. In spite of all this, Kim Stanislas Giani always wanted to become a cartoonist.
But Robert Smith sings "Lovecats" on TV and Kim decides to take drums lessons in a jazz school. Every day he would listen to the news 7" his mum brought back from the radio. He pays new wave with great attention but chooses jazz and performs on drums in the school's big band. At 10 performs onstage for the first time and likes it. So much for cartoons, he decides to devote himself entirely to music as soon as possible.
He joins rock bands as drummer then learns the organ on a kids keyboard. He enters high school in the music section, learns music history, harmony, the rudiments, theory and musical analysis. At 14 Kim is aired on radio for the first time with a noise piece for supermarket trolleys. At 15, he is interviewed by national pop magazine Magic about his songs. He's started to work on the guitar, the flute, the four track recorder, and sings in English. He picks up his first name as a stage name and records his first 7" at 16 for a Marseille based label before starting a solo tour all around France.
He then records his first album released on a Paris label. On it, he plays about 20 different instruments. The press remarks him. A long period with many albums on many labels follow. He is alone but but his musicales facets are multiple. In 2000, with album "The Hard Rock" (Spirit / Wagram), he announces the return of garage rock in France. But maybe a little too early. The album is a total flop. Still, at this very moment, Kim stops any extra musical activity and becomes a full time professional musician.
In 2004, he records one of his songs with Herman Dune as backing band, for his "posthumous album released while he is still alive" : "Kim is dead". Then he sometimes opens for Dionysos during their 2005/2006 tour. Taking him to perform at l'Olympia and the Zenith of Paris.
In 2007, Kim decides, as he turns 30, to record his childhood dream album : something Asian, aquatic and anglophone. It will be "DON LEE DOO". Solo at the drums, guitar, bass, keyboards and vocals, Kim ends up sounding newwave/R'n'B/rock/Chinese. He brings back into fashion two almost forgotten instruments ( the Omnichord and the Fairlight), so-ings in many different ways, pays the drums like a robot, and the piano like a Indonesian. Encounter with label Vicious Circle brings the project to life : " DON LEE DOO" the new and 17th album by KIM. By far his best to date. An esoteric concept album about a new planet to be built only with water.
Once again a story about water.
