Ludwig Von 88

Attention please : cultural monument and cult alternative rock band ahead ! From 1983 to 2000, their craziness, school kids jokes and sense of the absurd, combined with a Ramones and Métal Urbain inspired musical minimalism, have only paired with their popular success and their plethora of records, paved with unmissable standards like "Houlala" series or the "17 Plombs Pour Péter Les Tubes".

5 years after their long sleep, they still chart high at Crash, as much in terms of references (with a sum of nearly 12 CDs) as in terms of sales. Only 2 more albums ("Ce jour heureux est plein d'allégresse" and "Tout pour le Trash") to make the omnibus re-release of their discography on Crash complete, and already a "tribute" : "Mort Aux LV88" !

To know more :
LUDWIG VON 88 is a band of brutes in a world of pre-retired people..., a band formed of 3 members, singer, guitarist and bass player, assisted with a drum machine. Birth : End of 1983 in North-West suburb of Paris, an easy delivery but shaky childhood. Gigs played : as numerous as the hairs on King Kong's torso from caves, squats, derelict factories to huge concerts halls and more. Records sold : all formats included, in 25 ans, around 380 000 copies (not counting the 250 millions of pirate copies sold in Chine Pop.). Are the Ludwig dead ? No, they're just waiting at the back of their frozen cave for the right time to come back and conquer the world (again) like damned under ketamin. Why such diverse influences ? The members come from very different universes. Why 88 ? Because they had planned to be
Beethoven in 1988, because in Hong-Kong, 88 is a lucky number, because there were 88 band members when they started, because there are 88 constellations in the countryside night sky which divinely inspired, because it's Jennifer Lopez' hipline, because 8 x 8 = 64 which is the date of Rome's burning (they used to be firemen before they became musicians).

Why did the Ludwig never get signed on a major ?
Because for them making music is a revolutionary act and they don't particularly like the idea of having their songs thrown to the masses like you would to sell washing powder. No artist has ever seen his work glorified by a hammering promo campaign. There is a public, for every genre, no need to try and convince the listeners that the Ludwig's music is damn better than their neighbour's. The Ludwig support a democratized access to the media. First by forbidding any TV channel to broadcast the same song/artist more than once a week and any radio station the same song more than once a day and then by making sure they consider albums as artistic wholes and not as useless packaging allowing to sell more. There ! , They burst out laughing every time they hear major record companies crying out loud how independent they are...
