Mina May was formed in 2001 in the South of France.
After playing a hundred shows and touring all around France to promote their self-produced eponymous debut album, the band decided to move to Montreal, Canada for a year.
They played about 30 gigs in Quebec and Ontario, shot a video in Toronto and completed the recording and mixing sessions of their new EP, “Skylarking”, in Montreal.
Silverstation Records, their new Paris-based label, released “Skylarking” in September 2009, just as the band was flying back to France.
Raving reviews helped Mina May gain a more prominent status, and they rapidly became an act “to keep a close ear to” (SPIN Earth) in the French independent rock scene.
Such warm welcome gave the band the opportunity to hit the road again and play in numerous major French venues.
“Psychedelic”, “hypnotic”, “addictive”, “unclassifiable”, “brilliant…” are among the adjectives picked from various reviews in an attempt to define their music, whose charm no one seems to be immune to.
The band is currently working on some fresh material for a new album to be released in 2011.
Every last copy of their first album having been sold while touring, it was reissued in April 2010 by Silverstation Records – with support from venue/show promoter Tandem – and it is now officially available again.
