As an urban griot, the storyteller Pat Kalla stands under the world's palaver tree. Through this art, based on meeting and listening, he perpetuates the tradition of oral transmission. Since 2010, he combines his talents of verbal artist, musician and singer, in shows that mix speech, singing and groove in perfect harmony.
After a 3 years touring with his former show Conte & Soul (i.e. Tales and Soul) and more than 200 concerts all over France, Pat invites new musicians in the band. A guitarist and a brass section join the group, first composed by a bass player, a pianist and a drummer. Surrounded by these great groovers, Pat pursue his rewriting of traditional African stories.
La Légende d'Eboa King (The Legend of Eboa King) takes root in the ancient sounds of the black revolutionary speakers such as Gill Scott Heron. Patrice succeeds in mixing diverse cultural influences where his powerful afro-soul voice grooves on a generous black sound. A punchy rhythm section, strong African rooted brass line, an organic Fender Rhodes... everything combines into an highly energetic alchemy.
In 2014, Pat and the band decide to make the most of their live experience by recording, with the same energy, a 13 tracks eponym album. Released on october 8th, The Legend Of Eboa King, was an opportunity for the current Eboa King french tour.
The mention of Eboa King in the title of both album and show is a tribute to Eboa Lotin, a famous Cameroonian griot - Patrice's way to pay tribute to a figurehead of the Douala art of speech. This citation more generally is an homage to Africa, the cradle of Patrice's lifelong musical influences .
