Pigalle a story of sounds and words...
The 80s, François Hadji-Lazaro plays folk, having stopped all his "regular" jobs to only play in the subway, he set up in parallel a trio that play « trad » in the Summer on terraces of the Mediterranean Coast... Rock fantasies start to emerge, a drummer brother joins the troupe and François feels like writing his own tracks ...
Voilà : Pigalle is born in 82 in a cave of the magic district (at the time). They play, create, fiddle with stuff, and from the very start disturb the musical barriers and stereotypes, the lyrics get more and more important...
Life brings changes, in 84 the band becomes a duo (one of the first at the time to use drum machines and sequencers) ; François Hadji-Lazaro with Daniel Hennion, then Riton Escudié. A first album as a duo is released.
Creation of Boucherie Productions, François Hadji-Lazaro forms Les Garçons Bouchers and also joins Manu Chao's Los Carayos. Too many bands... François decides to record a last album by Pigalle before focusing on the other bands. But on its release (end of 90) the record « Regards affligés ... » and its « Bar-Tabac... » is more than warmly welcome. Rom then on François Hadji-Lazaro, all wound up, sets up (again) a band with *Stefff Gotkovsky, *Boubouche, *Robert Basarte (*they will also join Les Bouchers), Xavier Mesa and Thierry Svahn her they go for a huge series concerts and festivals .(see bio on the blog) ; and follows a legendary live « Pigallive ».
Naturally, the album « Rire et Pleurer » is made consequently with the aforementioned participants and JP Motte on drums... Pigalle tour and tour again only to stop at the release of « Alors », dark with sophisticated arrangements. This was 98..... the world of music starts to crumble down, big majors buy one another, record dealers die, slashed at the throat by FNAC, associations go through hard times, after 17 years Boucherie Productions shut down.
Each member of Pigalle go different ways ; Robert makes music documentaries (Ushuaïa) and films, JP motte is session drummer for studios and various bands, Thierry Svahn starts a solo career, Stefff sets up Le Bal du Golem, and François Hadji-Lazaro writes his first solo album : « Et si que.. » 2002 , then « Contre-courant » 2004 and « Aigre-doux » 2006. Each one his own way...
But the feeling is still there, itching.... François Hadji-Lazaro feels that his pen and hairy bagpipes crave for some new Pigalleries. The decision is made up : Pigalle is to tour again ...
