Raphaël Imbert is the instigator of many groups in the PACA region. He graduated from the Marseille CNR - where he taught until 2007 – and was a Villa Medicis Hors les Murs prize-winner, which earned him a six-month stay in New York City. He founded the Nine Spirit Company in 1999 and created four original works in tribute to Théodore Monod, Martin Luther King and Amadou Hampate Ba (creation of Amkoullel for Banlieues Bleues in 2004), and “Au Commencement”, accompanied by texts specially written by Guy Robert with the slammer Fred Nevchehirlian in 2007 (Montbéliard National Theatre). Newtopia Project, with Yaron Herman, triumphed at the 2005 Jazz Competition at La
Defense (1st group prize, 1st prize for composition, and soloist award). Raphaël Imbert blends jazz and baroque music with the Bach/Coltrane project (8000 records sold).
