From Kanjar’oc to Dupain via Gacha Empega, Sam Karpienia has forged his unique, rough and powerfully evocative voice during the last 20 years : the listener is therefore transported into the depths of Andalusian cante jondo, the plaintive waves of Greek rebetiko and the ecstatic heights of Pakistani qawwali. Nothing mystical in these finely crafted melodies but rather rough an stunning emotion, taken to its paroxysm like the amazing chant of the uprooted ones. His intense langue d'Oc or French poetry combines the trance of the two mandolins between facetious rhythms and devastating rock. Mediterranean music unheard yet, full of magical moments, popular fervour and lively words. Both universal and innovative.
