Since 1995 Secret Chiefs 3 { SC3 } are a revolving instru-mental experimental orchestra led by guitarist/composer Trey Spruance (formerly of Mr. Bungle, Faxed Head, Faith No More...).
Their studio recordings and tours perform differents line-up, as the group performs a wide range of musical styles including «Surf Rock», «Persian», «Arabian», «Indian», «Death Metal», «Cinemaesque Theme», «Electro», «Jazz», etc. Separating & englobing whole SC3 heptad adventures in satellite sub-bands : Electromagnetic Azoth, UR, Ishraqiyun, Traditionalists, Holy Vehm, FORMS and NT Fan.
Each albums feature various arghtists including former members from Mr. Bungle and Estradasphere, as well as musicians William Winant, Edvind Kang, Ches Smith, Shahzad Ismaily, Jay Young Kim, Toby Driver, Anonymous 13, Kenny Grohowski, Matt Lebofsky...
There are continuing theological and philisophical themes running through the band's history. The visual presentation of the albums relies heavily on icons and symbols related to these ideas.
