Sonámbulo Psicotropical

Sonambulo, (« Sleepwalker »), began as a music project in early 2006 . A création of original music, fusing African, traditional and modern Latin American beats with a contemporary sound and aesthetic. From their authentic sound, predominantly driven by energetic dance rhythms and improvisational riffs, comes a new genre « psycho-tropical ».

The members of Sonambulo come from Costa Rica, Cuba, Colombia and El Salvador. This rich cultural mix is evident in their music, and combined with audience interaction, it creates a spectacle for all the sensés.

« Our music’s ultimate goal is self expression and unhibited dancing. »

The band grew out of the circus performance art scene in Costa Rica. « Magos del Tiempo », the first street circus formed by creative individuals from around the World, sought to recover the streets through performance art linked to social and environmental causes. Out of this same spirit the « psycho tropical » movement emerged and took shape from the representation and musicalization of dreams and stories of this circus.
Sonambulo expresses through their music and lyrics this unique genre. Sonambulo is part of the fight against environmental threats in Costa Rica. Environmental defense is a creative engine for the band and part of its being.

At the end of 2009 Sonambulo released their first album “A Puro Peluche”. In 2010, Sonambulo was awarded “Best Tropical Artist” for this album by “The Association of Composers and Musical Authors” (ACAM) in Costa Rica.

In 2011, Sonambulo crosses borders and makes its first international tour, under the name “Europa’s Pie Tour 2011”, visiting countries such as France, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland and Spain, for a total of 25 presentations.

Today, Sonambulo is immersed in the creative process of their second album. Through collaboration with local traditional artists Sonambulo looks to root deeper in the origins of “psycho tropical” music.
