A unique instrumentation, refined and entrancing ambiances, vivid colours, a subtle energy; Ultraïa Octet is a genuine musical surprise;
The ensemble is originally from the Parisian Jazz scene, halfway between improvised music and chamber music, Ultraïa Octet play an original kind of music, between composition and improvisation; combining a blazing brass section, cello, accordion, clarinets and drums.
Their repertoire, composed by saxophonist Raphaël Dumont, evolve between aesthetics inspired from Norwegian composer Trygve Seim, the orchestral colours of Gil Evans, the energy and virtuosity of Balkan music and the wild improvisations of jazz for a genuine and unique journey.
"Ultraïa", is what pilgrims wish each other when they meet on the road; it means "go further" in Basque.
