Everything begins when after the split of his band Marshall Law, the fantastic bassist Lonnie Marshall is auditioned for the band Animal Dance, whose rhythm section turns out to be….Fish and Norwood from Fishbone. That’s the beginning of a long friendship, in which Fishbone will take Weapon of Choice under his wing and will bring them on tour. Thanks to their particular sound, Weapon of Choice goes on tour with very different bands such as Primus, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Run DMC, George Clinton,…And if Fishbone is still on their side, they’ll finally be signed, to the surprise of most, by Stone Gossard, Pearl Jam’s guitarist who makes them realize their first album in 1994. Another proof of the rare eclecticism of this unusual band, able to transcend styles and to reach beyond the musical borders with their particular groove. This very sound that Lonnie Marshall calls the Nutmeg and that makes of Weapon of Choice a band recognizable from the first notes. WOC is unique and nobody will deny it, certainly not Macy gray who stole them « Nutty Nutmeg Fantasy » for the Spiderman ‘s B.O.
4 albums later (combined on the compilation « Nutmeg Party » , released on Ter A Terre in 2005), it’s time to make a first assessment for Lonnie « Meganut » Marshall and his 6 fellow travellers. Many things happened in ten years, enough for Weapon of Choice to take it into their head to make their first official DVD, full of surprises : live sessions from their last european tour, all their videos since 10 years, unpublished interviews & pictures, and even a movie on the genesis of their new album. Weapon of Choice dosen’t plan to stop after such a good start and already work with Ter A Terre on a new edition of their previous albums, a new studio album and a great european tour with Dr Madd Vibe to celebrate fittingly what looks to be Weapon of Choice’s year.
