X Makeena is a hybrid entity on the edge of drum & bass, hip hop and dub. Two brothers, Stef and Nico, give life to a both powerful and creative instrumental mix : the very spinal chord able to support the vocal hyperactivity of Vicking and Says, the 2 MC's, altogether epileptic in their flows and lyrically tortured. The stage becomes then a place where dark and crazy creatures come to life and intensify the blood pressure among the mutant body of X Makeena. First shaking a little to become totally out of control, the madness show is so contagious that the crowd inexorably ends up bewitched in a hypnotic collective trance. The best antidote : immunise yourself with their 1st album, Death on the wax released in Spring 2004 and run to see them live !!
Following a 1st record marked with spontaneity and urgency, the Rennes-based band delivers today a 2nd album with even more asserted ambitions. The hip hop / drum 'n' bass / electro / dub mix is still there, as is the devastating energy which made their stage reputation, but the conception of the tracks reaches today a new level of maturity.
Naturally, X Makeena unite their ultra-technological vision of sound and a very human approach in their compositions. Imagine the result of a fusion between the music of Le Peuple de l'Herbe and Senser and make more radical, you'll then start to get a glimpse at the power and pertinence of X Makeena's new creations...
While their 1st record was the natural extension of their growing live experience, "Instinctive Dérive" is a more matured, constructed and produced album meant to exist far beyond the stage act.
In concert, the 2 voices, the bass and the machines are again combined with an original stage act where 5th element Karlton, with his taste for new circus and the Street Arts, brings an all new and fresh flavour to the scenic representation of so called electronic musics.
