Aphasia

1998. Originating from the Brest techno/punk scene, Aphasia stunningly performs for the first times with a couple of machines at the Sonics parties (creators of festival Astropolis) before he's « discovered » by Manu Le Malin, a regular of the extreme West parties, and then looking for serious lives to found his label Bloc 46. And there you go, 2 first vinyl EPs seal their collaboration. Then a 1st CD album in 2001, « Brain patch error », already acclaimed by the specialised critics for its dark electro combination with heavy beats and sampled coming from the young musician's rock/indus culture.
Crew Bloc 46, formed around Manu Le Malin and Torgull attend both big gatherings (like Astropolis where Manu is a resident, and its Montpellier equivalent Boréalis) and smaller rendezvous-vous in clubs. The Aphasia live perf is altogether powerful with its rhythms and its sense of rupture : to the monolithic performances of Helfish or Micropoint, it opposes electro inspired by the Italian Passarani and Lory D or even Autechre, with added anger.Out of these numerous live perfs Aphasia and young label Bruits de Fond release the 1st « Deadtrax » as CDR compilation, to reflect the efficiency of the stage act.

In 2002 is released « Aracheend » second and ambitious album by Aphasia, still on Bloc 46 now become a sub-label od indie consortium Uwe. Brilliant and ambivalent, mastering both ice and fire, feather and lead. Critical success more than commercial one, « Aracheend » places Aphasia in the circle of major electronic musicians. «  Deadtrax » vol. 2 modestly comes to confirm this with a new compilation of the best live parts played between 2002 et 2004.

From 2003 to 2005, the solo projet is almost put to sleep to focus the collective adventure Palindrome. Bloc 46 want to go rock. Slammed texts, heavy guitars and stunning hardbeats are the recipe for 1st premier album « Rions noir ». A tour follows on big stages (Printemps de Bourges) and also with established combos like Punish Yourself. Radical techno regulars passionately taste the stage performance again. But inspiration and energy dissappear before a second album is made. Time to go solo on machines again for Aphasia.
In the meantime, Uwe has refocused its catalogue around its biggest selling artists before definitely shutting down.

Aphasia pursues from then on his audio work, freed from tonal constraints and slowly drifting into the universe of industrial music as of free jazz. « Oxymoron » EP, released in 2008 on Bruits de Fond, closes his dancfloor itnerary. The next release on extreme laboratory Reverse records as on Résistance des Matériaux, future sub-label of Bruits de Fond, are already announced as uncompromising and extra-ordinary, of course.
