The band was created in 1999 by two founder-members of the Bangarang label from St Etienne. The two pieces belongs to an electro dub style of its own, which was developped along its different creations and lives.
Two founders of the label Bangarang created this two pieces band. They developed their own style (emo-dub-ambient) during lives and recordings, using up to date technology to renew the Jamaican concept of sound engineering. Their debut Ep « Bipolar Disorder » issued in January 2000, has been acclaimed by the French musical magazines. Then, Brain Damage collaborated with the main activists of the world dub scene: Zion Train, The Disciples, Alpha & Omega, Jah Warrior from the new-roots-digital scene, Skiz Fernando who created the New York label Wordsound and the illbient-dub movement, and also with the young French dub scene (Hammerbass, 1 000 milliards, Jarring Effects….) where Brain Damage takes a growing space, yet with a style of its own.
After featuring on numerous compilations, their first album « Always Greener On The Other Side » recorded partly at the famous Conscious sounds studio with the singer Tena Stelin (Bush Chemists, Jah Warrior, Iration Steppas), confirmed that Brain Damage had a unique way of dubbing music: emotional and powerful...By the end of 2003 new encounters with London vocalist Learoy Green and the poet/dj Black Sifichi from New York lead to a new album: "Ashes to Ashes/Dub to Dub " And live the band is far from the ambient-brain-twisted experiments of the studio: Sub-basses are tangible and the fight against the straightness of the machines is mercycless.
