A couple of yars ago, the so-called return of rock was predicted and in its course the appearance of a whole bunch of a new Parisian scene who'd only learned how to ply guitar when opening a Myspace page. Da Brasilians do not fit this all since, first of all, they formed in Normandy, and then because they are no sprinters, they like to mature things. Formed in the '00s, the band gathers school friends : Vincent aka Frabou, Rémi, Jeff and Benoît - later joined by Gregory on keyboards. The proximity of England, the big festivals in the West of France (Route du Rock, Art Rock), music labels (Rosebud, in Rennes, with The Little Rabbits, Katerine), the first album by The Stone Roses, The La’s, The Zombies, The Beach Boys, The Byrds, Gram Parsons, the Scottish harmonies of Teenage Fanclub or the rock of Pavement, all contributed to shape the musical identity of Da Brasilians. … Fruit of these influences, the track In The Morning, gets selected for CQFD by Les Inrockuptibles in 2007. The band then invites Tahiti Boy on keyboards and starts rehearsing in they studio at Mains D’œuvres in Saint Ouen (The Married Monk, Herman Düne). A luminous LP, About You, lets the sun in in 2009, and pleases the impatience of fans that get more and more numerous at every gig (Rock en Seine, Inrocks Indie Club tour, concerts in Scotland), until this début album. Produced live by Samy Osta, sound engineer of Parisian label Third Side (Cocosuma, Fugu, Flairs) and part of folk duo Domingo, the records boasts classical and classy song writing, and a genuine vintage spontaneity. Roots but never retro. A promising piece of work announcing what's to come through subtly used past references....
