KIM OHIO FUZZ, former bass player in psychedelic country punk band Witches Valley, grabs the mic and joins glamour-punk riffs of guitarist FABRICE while Damien Chauvet hammers garage rhythms.
A tacit rule says that every girl getting on the mic will automatically become a little pest. Kim Ohio Fuzz sticks to it, maliciously making boys rhyme with choice, just to remind us who's the boss. She's the singer and leads the way. This is proper rock we deal with here and no variety ! Fabrice also composes all the songs, sometimes helped by Kim, and carries the band on stage. His extremely tense playing just fits the situation. Mad River is 3 musicians without bass player. Mad River arethe instrument of a young furious lady but a genuine tricephalous entity!
It took them quite a while to give birth to a proper 1st album. 12 tracks lasting around 43 minutes like in the good old days of vinyl, with a key referential track « Lonely Are The Brave ». After a western from the early 60's about a genuine cow-boy (Kirk Douglas), becoming totally lost in a modern world because his references and landmarks have completely disappeared... Still the Mad River like any kind of music, even rap or electro. They don't want to live in total autarky, they simply show the courage of the brave, the ones who believe in their art and potential...
This is the story of sharing, of passion for American productions. No need for them to copy, just to find their way. Which they have. Their music may recall the Buzzcocks with a touch of Dinosaur Jr and of Yeah Yeah Yeahs declined in English. The metaphor in their band name says it all ; nothing can stop a mad river likely to turn either into a lake or into a vertiginous waterfalls. Only the brave daring to follow will know what happens next. A real time adventure with a human dimension.
This 1st record by Mad River is of course to be illustrated with live performances, which we can't wait for, in halls and festivals. The expectations are high for the live versions of tracks like «Down By The River», «Fuck The Roots» or «Concrete Criminals». Half a century after its birth the baby is still very healthy and still has a long way to go. The proof? Mad River!
