Mathieu Vermeulen

This Rouen born artist has all the chances to find a nice place next to Bénabar or Vincent Delerm. The pros have been closely following him and rewarded him in 1997 with the SACD writer-composer-interpret of the year prize and in 2004 with Special Prize of the jury and the Prix de l'Oracle at 15èmes Rencontres de la Chanson Française in Cébazat. He is saluted for the poet's classy light elegance and the ironic look, the sharp humour and the halftone tenderness that show in his songs. The delicacy of his melodies is praised, at times played on the piano, as are his nostalgic ballads and the swinging charm of his 1st album "Le Pianiste du Transatlantique".

For Vermeulen would never forget his first and foremost musical emotions for jazz and the Golden Gate Quartet among others and the good fairies who bentover his cradle : drummer Christian Garros and pianist Philippe Carment. Topping his warm humanism with a touch of derision, he draws delicious portraits of ordinary heroes and the little things of every day life and tastefully celebrates friendship, love, children and the feminine beauty...
